According to the lore: When Zeus saw that Perseus was going to the Shrine of the Stygian Witches, he asked Athena to send her familiar to aid Perseus as a replacement for his Invisibility Helmet. Athena refused, but instead asked Hephaestus to build a mechanical version of her owl. Bubo the brass-and-iron owl was then sent to Earth where he helped Perseus on his Quest.

The Bubo amulet is Athena's Familiar Spirit, the mythic Bubo the owl siting on a crescent moon. Always on the edge of our sight: observing all that she can, only to return to the Goddess to inform Her of all that she has seen and heard.
